Max Community Club
Meeting Minutes
December 8, 2014
Meeting called to order at 7:10pm
In Attendance: Jim & Karen Bowman, Ralph & Shary Boon, Jim & Daisey Jensen, Bob & Kaye Tuttle, Shirley Griffin, Eddie Burns
Club President Cindy Cawthra absent, Vice-President Jim Bowman presiding.
Jim thanked everyone for their help with the fish fry, and asked everyone to please try and set aside some time in their busy schedules to help out with the fish fry's so that it isn't the same people doing all the work every time. Even if you cannot be there to help, if you are able to prepare a side dish to bring, usually arrangements can be made to get the food delivered to the club house for the fish fry.
Minutes for the previous meeting were read by Bob Tuttle. As the meeting for November had been canceled, minutes were read for the October 13, 2014 meeting. Club Treasurer Margaret Smith was absent, the Treasurer's Report was read by Vice-President Jim Bowman. Shirley Griffin made a motion to accept the previous meeting minutes and the Treasurer's Report without any corrections. Jim Jensen seconded the motion. After a unanimous vote, both were accepted without correction.
Old Business: It was noticed that the soap dispenser in the ladies rest room was out of soap. Shirley Griffin volunteered to replace the soap.
New Business: The annual fruit plate distribution was discussed, as was the annual community letter. A few names were dropped from the fruit plate list and some were added due to age and health of the recipients. It was decided that club members would gather together at the club house on December 12, 2014 at 1pm (MT) to put the fruit plates together and prepare the annual community letter for mailing.
The purchase of a flag pole light was discussed. A question arose as to whether or not the United States flag can be flown 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; and if the flag must be taken down during inclement weather. Per the United States Flag Code (*United States Code, Title 4, Chapter 1, Section 6), “It is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flagstaffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness” (a), and, “The flag should not be displayed on days when the weather is inclement, except when an all-weather flag is displayed” (c). Karen Bowman made a motion to put the question of should a flag pole light be purchased to a vote. Shary Boon seconded the motion. A vote among attending club members counted four in favor of a flag pole light, zero against the purchase, and three members abstaining. Therefore a flag pole light will be purchased and installed.
The meeting adjourned at 8:05pm (MT)
*The laws relating to the flag of the United States of America are found in detail in the United States Code. Title 4, Chapter 1 pertains to the flag; Title 18, Chapter 33, Section 700 regards criminal penalties for flag desecration; Title 36, Chapter 3 pertains to patriotic customs and observances. These laws were supplemented by Executive Orders and Presidential Proclamations.
