The Max Community Club is a civic minded club, established to serve the community of Max, Nebraska. The Max Community Club was established in 2000, when the Max Women’s Club (which had been founded during the 1930’s) was reorganized to allow men to participate. Since that time, the Max Community Club has devoted itself to serving the community of Max. One of the first projects undertaken by the Club, was to refurbish the local park, now called the Max Pioneer Park. Through a grant from the Nebraska Arboretum Foundation for the Community Enhancement Program, several trees and flowering shrubs were planted around the park. Picnic tables and shelters have been installed, and the basketball court (originally installed in the Spring of 1949) is currently being refurbished with new cement. Club members also take on the responsibility of maintaining the park, to keep it a friendly and inviting place to visit. The Club has also rescued a 100+ year old local church building that had fallen into disuse and disrepair, and which was in danger of becoming just another old building lost to history. In 2004 the Club began raising funds to pay to have the old church moved, and in 2009 the church was moved to its present location in the Max Pioneer Park, where restoration efforts are ongoing.
The Club also hold’s fish fry suppers from October through April (which are very popular not only among Max residents, but among residents of neighboring communities as well), an annual Fun Day & Hog Roast at the Community Center and Pioneer Park, an annual Flea Market, and an annual community Clean-Up Day. Club members also deliver fruit plates to the elderly and others during the Christmas season. The Community Club also takes care of the street lights in Max. Although the Club does ask for donations from local residents and property owners, Club members themselves pay the majority of the street light bill for the entire village of Max. The Club makes the Community Center available (for a small fee) for community gatherings, funeral dinners, birthday and anniversary parties, family reunions, and other occasions. The Max Community Club now has a Weblog set up to provide information about the community, Club events, and other items of interest. Don't forget to check out our blog by clicking on the tab above!
