I apologize for being so late in getting these up. This month they are presented in a downloadable PDF format. If you don't have Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer (most new computers have it preinstalled), it can be downloaded for free from the Adobe Acrobat website.

Max Community Club Meeting Minutes May 13, 2013 The monthly meeting of the Max Community Club was held on May 13, 2013, and was called to order by club president Cindy Cawthra at 7:10pm. Attending were: Cindy Cawthra, Margaret Smith, Jim and Karen Bowman, Bob Tuttle, Daisy and Jim Jensen, Amanda Tuttle, Harold Perkins, Ralph and Shary Boon, Geralding Edwards, and Shirley Griffin.
Bob Tuttle read the minutes from the last meeting and Margaret Smith read the treasurer’s report. Shirley Griffin made a motion to approve the minutes and the treasurer’s report. The motion was seconded by Geraldine Edwards. The motion carried. Old Business: Dr. Tom Noffsinger will be at the Max Community Center on June 1, 2013 at 7:00pm (MT) to give a presentation on his trip to Russia. Refreshments will be served. This presentation is open to the public. Shirley Griffin, Karen Bowman, Daisy Jensen and Cindy Cawthra all volunteered to provide cookies for Dr. Tom’s presentation; and Shary and Ralph Boon volunteered to clean up the community center after the presentation. The Annual Max Community Wide Garage Sales day will be on June 8, 2013, with sales beginning at approximately 8:00am (MT). Harold Perkins will be placing an ad for the community wide sales in the Benkelman Post. The ad will run through the week of sales. If anyone would like to help Perk pay for this ad, please see him. New Business: The Annual Memorial Alumni Brunch will be held in the Max Community Center on May 25, 2013 at 10:30am (MT). We will need volunteers to help set up for the brunch and also to help clean up afterwards. Landscaping in the Max Pioneer Park was discussed again. Margaret Smith will be in charge of designing, ordering and purchasing the supplies. Jim Bowman volunteered to help with getting everything installed. If anyone else would like to volunteer to help, please let Margaret or Jim know. Summer is fast approaching and the park does need to be mowed, and volunteers will be needed to keep the park mowed, watered and kept up. There was a discussion on repairing and painting the park picnic tables. The local Girl Scouts have volunteered to paint the tables and to help with other work around the park if we need them to. On Thursday or Friday morning, Kay Lebruska will be delivering a vintage quilt that was discovered in a Denver auction some time ago. The quilt was found to have been made by ladies living in Max during the 1930’s or 1940’s. When the quilt arrives, we will make a decision as to the best place to display it. The Community Club building has been rented for June 15, 2013 for the Lemon family reunion. The next meeting of the Max Community Club will be on June 10, 2013 at 7:00pm (MT) The meeting adjourned at 7:42pm Max Community Club Meeting Minutes
November 12, 2012 The monthly meeting of the Max Community Club was held November 12, 2012, and was called to order by club president Cindy Cawthra at 6:40pm. Attending were: Bill and Cindy Cawthra, Margaret Smith, Karen Bowman, Bob Tuttle, and Daisy and Jim Jensen. The minutes for the last meeting were not readily available and so were not read. Margaret Smith read the monthly treasurer’s report. Karen Bowman made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report as read. The motion was seconded by Bill Cawthra. A vote was taken and the motion carried. Old Business: There were some issues with the kitchen sink faucet, and it had to be replaced. A new faucet was purchased and installed. The recent fish fry was discussed, and we had a very good turnout, including several folks from out of state who were visiting locally. The possibility of having a Thanksgiving supper at the club house was discussed. As there are so many club members with either definitive or tentative plans for Thanksgiving, it was decided not to have a club supper this year. New Business: The future of the Max Community Club was discussed. It seems as if there is not much participation among the members regarding the “day-to-day” operation of the club (i.e. cleaning the club house, maintaining the park and museum, etc), and it seems as if it is always the same few members who are doing these things. Suggestions were made to call around among the other members when there are things that need to be done, and ask for their help, as sometimes not everyone is aware of what needs to be done, and when. It was also mentioned that perhaps the club could have some sort of membership drive. Club elections are to be held at the next meeting, please be thinking about that. Fruit plates are also scheduled to be done at that the same meeting. Margaret and Cindy worked on a list of this year’s recipients. It was requested and discussed to bring some “finger food” and/or snacks to the next meeting. Glen Lemon donated a large picture frame and several old photos to be displayed in the Little Church Museum; and Ila Foster donated two new cushioned floor mats to be used in the clubhouse kitchen area. The club thanks both Glen and Ila for their generous donations. The Memorial Plaque was discussed. There are several members who have passed away who need to have their names added, including Donna Wiggins, Anne Rundhaug, Darrel Rickart, Jerry Shafer, and Karen Humphreys. Cindy will take care of getting the new engraved brass plates for the Memorial Plaque. It has been noted that there are some people who have taken to driving across the park in their cars, and using the park as a short cut. A sign was installed asking folks to not drive on the grass. The sign is now gone. A more permanent solution is needed. Someone drove through one of the t-posts marking the entrance to the parking area and destroyed it. There was discussion as to whether we should install a new t-post, or something larger and more easily seen. Bill will look into it. Somebody left a pan and lid in the clubhouse, sometime between the October 8th meeting and the Nov 12th meeting. If you’re missing a pan and lid, please let us know! The meeting concluded and was adjourned at 7:25pm. The next meeting of the Max Community Club will be December 10, 2012 at 6:30pm. I'm still trying to get caught up with all the happenings here in Max since we moved the community club blog over here to our new website. Here are some photos of our annual Max Fun Day. This year we had our Fun Day on September 9, 2012, and a great time was had by all who attended. Good Fun, Good Music, Good Food, and Good Friends! Today is October 5, 2012, and we here in Max are having our first snowfall of Winter 2012!
Although the current drought has caused the Republican River to essentially go dry, the colors along the river just south of Max are just as pretty this fall as they are every fall. These photos were taken at the end of September 2012.
The Max Elevator is now gone, having been demolished over the past month or so.
