The meeting was called to order at 7:06pm
Attending were Jim and Karen Bowman, Bill and Cindy Cawthra, Shirley Griffith, Geraldine Edwards, Bob and Kaye Tuttle, Levoine Humphreys, Daisy and Jim Jensen, Margaret Smith, and Shary Jones.
Cindy Cawthra thanked everyone who helped out during Ralph Boon’s farm sale, and also all who worked on Clean Up Day.
Shary read the minutes from the last meeting and Margaret read the Treasurers Report. A motion was made by Levoine Humpreys to approve the minutes and report, the motion was seconded by Shirely Griffith. The motion was approved.
OLD BUSINESS:
Cindy informed the members of an executive meeting held on April 23rd, at the farm sale, to discuss the purchase of a sprayer up for auction, that would be used for the park. The sprayer was purchased. Cindy also informed the members of an impromptu meeting held by the club on Clean Up Day, in which it Bill and Jim presented prices for a replacement door and storm windows for the church. A motion was made to go ahead with the purchase, and a vote was taken to approve this. The motion carried. Margaret Smith then made a motion that the club also purchase storm windows for both the north and south windows on the club house. The motion was seconded and approved.
Cindy also related that she has spoken with Nana at the Dundy County Library, who reports that she has decided upon one of the two books to be used as memorials for Donna Perkins and Phyllis Gardiner.
Cindy also reported that Rod Damrow sprayed the park for dandelions, and D&L sprayed the community center for bugs.
Cindy asked if the club members would like to send thank you’s to Rod Damrow (for spraying the park), Mike Pierce (for allowing the club to deposit tree branches collected during Clean Up Day, into a burn pit on his property), and Ralph Boon (for including the club in his farm sale. The club was able to sell snacks and lunch to sale attendees). It was decided that we would send cards to these individuals thanking them for their generosity.
NEW BUSINESS:
Cindy related that Harold Perkins had turned in a letter in which he stated that he was resigning his membership. This was discussed, and much regret was expressed over Perk’s decision. The club also expressed that Perk would change his mind.
The Alumni Brunch is scheduled for May 28, 2011, beginning at 10am (Mountain Time). Cindy asked for volunteers to bring food for this. Several of the women volunteered.
The club house has been rented for July 30, 2011.
Certificates of Appreciation were awarded to Harold Perkins, Jim Bowman, and Bill Cawthra “In recognition and appreciation of your tireless and selfless dedication to the community of Max, Nebraska, and your willingness to share unhesitatingly of your time, energy and resources to provide a shining example of community service. We cannot thank you enough.” As Perk had resigned after the certificates were printed, and was not present at this meeting, he received his certificate earlier in the day.
Bob Tuttle brought up the subject of park maintenance. There was discussion, and a plan was brought forward for volunteers to mow, weed whack, and water the park. A motion was made, seconded and approved that Jim Bowman, Bob Tuttle, Eddie Burns, Levoine Humphreys, and Cindy Cawthra would mow and weed whack. There will be two volunteers mowing at the park each time it is mowed. Jim Bowman will be in charge of contacting each of the above named mowing volunteers and coordinating which volunteers would be mowing on which day. Karen Bowman volunteered to take care of watering the park. A motion was then made by Geraldine Edwards to pay the volunteers for the fuel they use to mow the park. The motion was seconded by Jim Jensen. The motion carried.
Bob then brought up the subject of the Max People’s Church, and how it would be used. Suggestions were made to use it as it currently is, simply an addition to the park which can be rented out for weddings. A suggestion was made to use it as a “church museum” exclusively, and a suggestion was made to use it as a combination church museum and Max history museum. Cindy brought up that she believed the use of the church had been discussed several years before, and decided upon. It was decided that Bob would review the meeting minutes and secretary notes for the past several years to determine if a use for the church had already been decided, and would bring his findings to the next club meeting, where the club would either move forward on the previous decision or make a final decision on the use of the church building.
Bob also announced that the Max Community Club now has an email address and a community club blog. The email address is [email protected] and the community club blog address is www.themaxcommunityclub.blogspot.com
The blog will be used to post community club meeting minutes, announcements, upcoming events, and other club and community news.
The subject of the annual flea market was brought up for discussion. Karen Bowman made a motion that the club have the flea market this year. The motion was seconded by Kaye Tuttle. The date of the flea market was tabled until next month’s meeting, to allow time to determine the best date for the flea market so as to avoid any scheduling conflicts with club plans, member plans and other events occurring in neighboring communities.
The meeting adjourned at 8:18pm
